Day 47– Tuesday 2 August 2016 – Camooweal - Mt Isa

We woke this morning to very high winds and a pretty chilly temperature, and although there were a few vans that left very early in the morning there were still a number that waited to see how the weather would pan out, as we did.   The trip was only 186km but it was pretty much high winds all the way making the going slow and tedious.

The Ant Hills were again prevelant and we were struck by the starkness of much of the land we saw along the way.  It was another fairly mundane road, another trip where every signpost took your attention because there wasn't much else to see along the way.

Mt Isa was a bit of a surprise being quite a bit larger than we had anticipated.  But you can't miss the mining side of the community as one of the mines is right at the edge of the town, the stacks can be seen many kms before you get to town and it's clear where the heart of it lies.

It also struck us - the similarity in many ways to Alice Springs situated almost in a basin, surrounded by a range of mountainous hills.

We hadn't booked into a van park and so had a bit of a drivearound before we finally settled on the Mt Isa Caravan Park.

We had anticipated a bit of a roudy night when music started playing early on from a house in the street behind the park which was occupied by an Aboriginal family.  The music continued fairly loudly until the late evening and aside from a bit of shouting at around 11.30 it ended up being a fairly uneventful night.

From the little bit we had seen during our drive around in the afternoon we decided to stay an extra night so we could bath the dogs again and also see a bit more of Isa before we left.
