Day 58 – Saturday 13 August 2016 – Proserpine - Mackay

Our sleep-in didn't quite go as planned as the birds were up early and so were some of the campers but it was nice to have a slow start with no sense of "hurry up".  We even managed a good breakfast before heading out around 9.45.

There wasn't much to write home about for this trip, although the roads through the mountains were pretty, the actual trip itself was a little boring.  Coming into Mackay area there was a caravan park situated right next to a Cane field.  I'm sorry - but after what we had seen the day before - no - just NO!

Mackay was much bigger than we had imagined but we managed to score a nice - albeit difficult to get into - site in a really nice park just outside the city.  We got set up, had some lunch and that's where things didn't go so well.  We decided to go for a bit of a drive to look around and Shane noticed as we pulled out of the park there was little to no acceleration power in the car.  We drove less than half a kilometre before turning around to head back to camp.  That's where the burning smell hit and we pulled over on the side of the road.  A call to RACV produced an RACQ guy who diagnosed the issue as a fuel sensor and advised we shouldn't drive it until we've had it checked out.  So he escorted us back to the van park where we'll have to sit it out until Monday to see if we can get it fixed.

Thank heaven we upgraded our RACV cover before we left, but even so, offers of a hire car that we really couldn't take dogs anywhere in and that had to be picked up 40 minutes away really didn't leave us with many options.  So we'll have a bit of a rest for the next couple of days and hope that the issue can be resolved and we can actually make it home in time with 2500 kms to travel and only 2 weeks left of my holidays.  hmmmm maybe that was another Ewwwww day as well.

Not to mention - not one photo!
