Day 48– Wednesday 3 August 2016 – Mt Isa

OK so we aren't in Kansas any more.......  Well certainly not Darwin anyway.  It's been a bit of a shock to the system coming from 34 degree days in Darwin and now about 12 degrees cooler and very cold at night.  We're back to electric blankets at night and t-shirts & shorts are definitely out!!!!!

The plan was to bath the dogs this morning and then head out to do a bit of sight seeing this afternoon.  But it was so bloody cold in the morning that neither I nor the dogs (OK so I'm speaking on behalf of the dogs here) were feeling much like spending any time out in that cold wind.  So it was a very slow start to the day.  Bathing was done, and without doubt particularly Miss Kitty was in desperate need of a good dunking, but it was mid afternoon by the time we ventured out for a look around.

Our first stop was Lake Moondarah which was definitely quite a surprise in the midst of the Queensland Outback.  We would have loved to have come back later to take sunset photos that was until we read a sign warning of the diseases spread by mosquitoes in the area.  Happy to bypass that local experience thank you.

On the way back into town I snapped this pic and couldn't help but be somewhat amused that a couple of television cooks managed to score a huge big sign all their own while a number of notable men & women shared the sign below.  Hey - don't get me wrong - I'm an MKR fan - but....... well...........

We then ventured up to the lookout in the middle of town and were amazed by the size of the town and once again the imposing existence of the mine at the edge of town.

Loved the signpost with all the distances to various locations and had a hearty laugh at the additions on the post itself.   Very funny Jack & Henry!

And I couldn't help but be a bit puzzled coming down from the lookout and spotting the curtains on this little gem.  Shane said the last time he had seen a house with curtains like this it was found to be growing some interesting herbs inside.  Who knows what you might find in Mt Isa!
