Day 64 – Friday 19 August 2016 – Maryborough - Sunshine Coast

Today provided a really nice opportunity for something a bit different.  A friend from Brisbane who we had hoped to call in and see along the way was heading to Rockhampton today.  Unfortunately because of our changes and delays to our original plan we weren't able to spend time with her in Brisbane but we did manage to meet up at a roadside stop along the way, see the dogs and have a chat.  It wasn't quite the same as spending some quality time but it's been ages since we've caught up so it was really nice to see her again.

Lovers of the Minions movies will hopefully understand why Shane wanted to turn off here.

The scenery these past couple of days has been really pretty and the mountains in the background spectacular although often too hazy to photograph.

I'm really getting frustrated about caravan parks and the service they offer at this point.  After phoning ahead again and asking for a drive through site and confirming that the sites were easy to access because of the issue with the clutch on the car, we arrived to find an absolutely hideous park set on a steep hillside.  After almost not being able to negotiate the corner to get up our particular "road" to the site, the car and van once again barely fitted and in fact it was lucky we intended to unhook and tour around a little because there was no way we could have left the car attached to the van without blocking  the road.  Not to mention the steep hill at low speed which once again tested the clutch on the car.  People clearly don't care - they want your money and too bad if you have issues using their park.  You wouldn't mind if it was a really lovely park but this isn't.  The sites are unkept and uneven, and if it wasn't frustrating enough, the expansion taking place just 50 metres away from the existing sites produced an enormous amount of noise from diggers and graders that were working there.  We were really glad to have a bite of lunch and get the heck out of there.

And they told us it was in a rain forest setting....

Our narrow bit of cement AFTER I swept it.

The red arrow indicates the fall of the block as that is the roof of the van at the bottom of the hill.

Our afternoon drive took in the coastal townships of Mooloolaba, Coolum and Noosa including stopping off to give the dogs a walk on Marcoola Beach.  Miss Kitty, always having been a bit of a beach babe, had her tail wagging high and set off at a decent trot even breaking into a gallop at one stage.  Shane and I laughed - it's the fastest she has moved since we left home and I think maybe for a moment she forgot she was a person and thought she was a 6 month old puppy again - just for about 10 seconds......  I'm sure she looked around to see if anyone had been watching.

It wasn't until we headed home that we realised just how far we had come.  Thankfully opting to take the motorway home, we finally got back to the park after dark having clocked up 13,490kms so far for the entire trip.  I set about making dinner for the two and four legged people but as I was waiting for some pasta to cook I noticed this outside my door.  The moon put on an amazing show before disappearing into the treetops.

Poor Miss Kitty.  Pretty tired from her eventful day (and all that exercise) almost fell asleep on my pillow waiting for her nightly Bacon Cookie!  What a bad mother I am for taking so long to get to bed.
