Day 59 – Sunday 14 August 2016 – Mackay

With nowhere to go and not much to do for me it was a bit of a welcome forced rest day.  We had a relaxed start to the day and I actually got to make a start on reading a book - something I haven't bothered to do so far on the trip because there have been so many other things taking up our time.

Mid afternoon we decided to take the dogs for a walk around the van park and discovered it backed onto a huge wetland area with lots of bird life.

There were even fish jumping out of the water.

And of course Mr Pelican decided to check that out - but unfortunately he seemed always to be about 3 metres behind them.

While the wetlands were a great find, it explained the previous night's influx of mosquitoes and we were sure to shut the screen door in the van before nightfall.

And so this is our little patch of heaven in Mackay.
